Technology
Our office employs many types of new technology. These technologies benefit the patient by offering improved diagnosis and care.
The use of lasers in dentistry has brought about many great advancements. The use of lasers allows for procedures that are less painful, reduce the amount of tissue loss, and provide a reduction in bleeding. The use of a laser allows some procedures to be performed without the use of a drill or the need for a shot. Our practice uses lasers at all our locations to improve your experience in our practice allowing us to provide technologically advanced care.
Our office has been using The iTero® Element 3D Intra-Oral Scanner for several years. This cutting edge piece of technology can be found in our Massapequa Park and Nesconset location. The scanner allows our orthodontic team to laser scan your mouth rather than take an impression. No more goopy impression material to make you gag. The scanner uses a laser wand only slightly larger than a toothbrush to take digital “photos” of your mouth with no radiation. The thousands of data points are “stitched” together to make a digital 3d model of your mouth.
This model allows the dentist to plan your treatment and individual tooth movements. It also allows you as the patient to see exactly what position your teeth are in and where they will end up. Compared to old fashion stone models the digital impression is more accurate and better.
The digital models can be used to make other custom appliances with much more accuracy than previously able. We are able to send the scan directly to the dental laboratory. When paired with Invisalign the power is truly unleashed. The digital model is sent directly to the company to plan where the orthodontic movements are and exactly what the final result will be. The aligners fit perfectly and apply pressure in the exact location and amount needed.
We are very excited to offer this technology to our adult and teen patients getting braces. We also, at times, use this scanner to create other oral appliances and plan for implants with our oral surgeon.
